Three Examples of Engagement through Photovoice

Addressing the complex challenges of today’s world requires our collective creative capacity. As such, arts-based methods which promote creativity are increasingly important means engaging people in issues that matter most to them. This article focuses on one method, Photovoice, is a “process by can identify, represent, and enhance their community through specific photographic technique” (Wang & Burris, 1997, p. 369) where participants take photos response question or topic inquiry. To explore this engagement we draw from methodological insights gleaned three Master’s Arts Leadership capstone projects employed Photovoice (or variations thereof) as method inquiry.
 The organized follows: We begin reviewing research then summarize projects, occurred two nonprofit organizations public sector institution. In discussion, compare contrast emerging these including extent each project: (a) enabled workers at various levels organizational hierarchies share voices; (b) required careful attention ethics; (c) generated relationships among participants. paper, emphasis here highlight process impact using rather than sharing study findings conclusions. example, both play leadership role participatory engagement, thus deemphasizing top-down decision-making promoting more integrated approaches engagement.
